Public Advisory - Spring Thawing Conditions

Residents are asked to please note the following issues related to the
sudden thawing of snow and ice in the City.

Retention Lake ice conditions can and will change rapidly causing unsafe ice conditions. Residents are advised to be very cautious around or near retention lakes. It is especially unsafe for small children to be playing on or near these ponds.

City crews will be beginning the annual task of repairing potholes that will occur on most asphalt streets due to the freeze/thaw cycle.  Motorists are cautioned that potholes are repaired on a priority basis only and that to complete all streets will take a considerable amount of time. They should also be aware that as the freeze/thaw continues, potholes change size and shape on a daily basis. Drivers must be aware they should drive slowly when encountering any pool of water that may contain a hidden pothole. Water pooling can also occur on city streets as a result of frozen catch basins. The public should avoid driving through any pool of water on a city street.

Sudden melting of snow can cause problems for home owners as significant pooling of melt water or ice jamming can occur and interfere with property drainage. Residents should take measures to take appropriate action if this condition exists on your property.

City residents are always encouraged to report significant potholes/roadway problems to
the Public Works Department at 306 825-4581.

After Hours Emergency Number is: 780 872-5418
