MEDIA RELEASE Wednesday, November 19, 2003 Lloydminster 9-1-1 Service is Launched Today A significant new service has been launched and is now operational today in the Border City. The 9-1-1 system for Lloydminster is unique in that the call taking centre receives calls from both the Saskatchewan side - Sask Tel system and the Alberta side - Telus system at one single point. The call taking point is the local Detachment of the RCMP, which is municipally operated and will now expand it's on-site personnel coverage to a 24/7 basis for direct call taking. 9-1-1 service in Lloydminster only takes calls from within the Lloydminster city boundaries. Areas outside of Lloydminster have their own separate service. The centre dispatches police calls directly from the centre and immediately connects to Fire and Ambulance dispatch centres if that emergency service is required or requested. Call takers automatically receive the callers phone number and address in the City. If you are calling from a cell phone, you must give the information on your location as automatic information received is very limited. WHEN SHOULD YOU USE 9-1-1 SERVICE: Use only in emergency situations that require immediate assistance from the police, fire or ambulance. Do not call 9-1-1 for information for a non-emergency such as, directory assistance, property damage accident, break-in to vehicle when suspect is gone, theft of property or for general information or to report routine complaints. You should use the regular operations line of 825-6350 for these. Do not program automatic dialing systems or security systems to 9-1-1.
